In July 2014, a group of 21 students from Midsomer Norton Sixth Form will be travelling to Kenya to volunteer in the deprived town of Nakuru. For many of us this will be a life-changing experience, giving us an insight into an extremely different culture and way of life. We will be working primarily with children from underprivileged backgrounds, helping with, and providing support to several Community Development projects already underway. Much of our time will be spent in a school which is currently lacking some of the basic facilities and teaching materials. The school also doubles as the outlet for an extensive feeding programme in the community, so there is an additional challenge here meeting the needs of a lot of hungry children. We hope and believe this trip will provide us with an unforgettable experience and it will also help to enhance our employability in the future. It will undoubtedly provide a better understanding of the complexities of poverty and allow us to witness the broader global issues first hand. Your contribution and support for us has been a great help.
