Charities

Annually The Bath Beat supports one or two charities with money raised on our event. We normally select different charities each year based on suggestions from our team or in order to support a group of walkers.

We also work alongside Children’s Hospice South West by providing them with entries they can then use to generate sponsorship. In return they help us with additional helpers for the event. This relationship helps both parties and helps raise the profile of this worthwhile charity.

Our charities in 2012 were Mencap ‘The voice of learning disability’ and The Ralph Allen School Trust. One of our team works with Mencap which is why it was a natural choice. For many years we have used Ralph Allen as our base and now they want to build a new sports centre. We feel we wanted to support this in recognition of their help to us. We also provided free places to people raising money for Cancer Research and Convoy of Hope. In addition James and Ken raised £1,400 for Operation Smile; Colin and Rob raised money for Royal Marines charities ColinandRobschallenge & Comando999 and a large group raised funds for Sands.

Our charities for 2013 were supporting MEFI who provide hope to homeless and abandoned people in Mexico City. One of our organisers has a nephew who works for this project and so we know it is a worthwhile charity doing good work. We also supported The Somer Valley foodbank as a local charity. They provide food and support to those going through hard times in The Somer Valley area. One of our organisers knows some of the people who help as volunteers in this project and hence we felt happy to lend them our help and support.
